Staying Alcohol-Free on the “Patio” This Summer
episode #324
You are not alone. If you’re worried about your “patio” this summer, so are a lot of other midlife women. The worry about staying alcohol free is louder this year, and this conversation is needed. This episode is about turning your challenges in staying alcohol-free this summer into opportunities in midlife and beyond.
The “patio” can be a literal patio, which is a challenge for many women during the warm weather months, or whatever your challenge is. It could be a vacation, a barbecue, or any spot or situation that makes you think, “I can’t do this without drinking.”
There is no “good or right season” to be alcohol free, but summer, with all its associations and expectations, can feel especially challenging.
What you’ll hear:
I'll help you identify what your specific summer triggers are instead of feeling overwhelmed by "not drinking all summer.”
The reason why trying to live the same summer as when you were drinking can leave you feeling let down. I share my own experience with patios, summer wines, and how I had to change things up.
Practical ways to transform your challenging spaces—whether that means skipping your Aunt Sally's barbecue or making your patio an alcohol-free friendly zone with new plants and glassware. I'll share how I went from avoiding my couch to creating new rituals, and how you can decide what works for you (and change your mind anytime).
Thank you for listening. I’m with you.
If people around you are drinking, let them be. We can’t control their drinking, but we can take care of ourselves and turn those patios into opportunities. I’m proud of you for doing the damn thing and being here today.
