Create a Spring Mood Board Just For Fun
EPISODE #350
This is a reflection only for midlife women. We pause and appreciate ourselves, we create what we want in our lives, we invite in the wisdom and life skills and energy, and we release what is holding us back.
If you feel like the seasons are going by too fast and you want to pause and remind yourself of where you are and what you want and don't want as you embrace spring, this one is for you.
We are at the age where life is going by too fast and if we don't stop and pay attention we will miss it.
This is a reflection that will help you pause and reflect on where you are today and what you want to invite in and release this spring. It's a reflection I will walk you through and you can use it to create a mood board.
The seasons are whipping by for me. San Diego has skipped its way right to summer for most of winter, so I am constantly reminding myself about what date it is. Spring is the only season I feel the fresh energy and desire to release the mindset and things that weigh me down and invite in freshness and energy that makes me feel and look my best.
I didn't set out with goals this year. I'm into less. Less tasks, less pressure, saying less and being more. I'm pretty goal-less. What I am is living in the right now energy. Not trying to figure out long-term outcomes, but focused on what I can do today to make tomorrow better for myself.
I want to invite in soft colors, lightness, lighter makeup, lighter hair, a lighter sense of self. The winter had me taking myself so seriously. That is not my typical personality. I love humor and being lighthearted but I'm in the midst of transitions in my life and one in particular that has been tough and I know one of the biggest lessons I will ever learn about myself, so I'm paying attention.
What Is a Mood Board and How Is It Different From a Vision Board?
A mood board is not a vision board. A vision board is future focused. It's aspirational. It's the life you want someday. A mood board is present focused. It's about how you want to feel right now, this season, this chapter. It's the energy, the colors, the words, the feeling you want to carry with you through spring. It's not about someday. It's about now.
There is no right or wrong way to create one. It's made up of images, clips from magazines or Pinterest or your camera roll, words, quotes, and reminders that reflect how you want to feel and the vibes you want to create.
You can do a physical mood board by purchasing a poster board or foam board, or digitally on Canva by creating a free account and searching for mood board templates. This episode is about doing it for the fun of it, if it sounds fun to you.
Set the Mood
Light some candles, buy some flowers, set the mood. Grab a notebook or a journal. Sit with yourself or if you're like me, walk with who you are today and who you're becoming. If you're in the midst of a transition, you're on your way to becoming and sometimes that recognition deserves a walk.
The Prompts
First, appreciate where and who you are today.
The celebration and appreciation ritual of you. Reflect on winter and how you're feeling. What you appreciate about yourself and what you're proud of yourself for today. Be gentle with yourself and boost yourself up with a touch of empowerment. A yay, me if you want.
You deserve this. Goodness, you've come a long way in your life. I know you want to highlight all of the things you haven't done. Maybe you've changed your mind. Also, how is highlighting what you haven't done working for you? I know it doesn't do a darn thing for me.
Make a habit out of praising yourself and your spring will be a beautiful experience.
What do you want to create this spring?
A blank slate. What goes on there? Choose one thing. Give yourself a montage moment like in the movies. What are you doing, wearing, who are you with, where are you visiting. Capture a few of those moments and add them to your board. New habits and routines? More time for yourself? A new art project or skincare routine. Reflect on what is coming to mind.
What will you invite in?
This is a good question to walk with. Picture yourself opening the door and welcoming in a feeling, a new idea, a word, a surrounding. What does it feel like when it walks in? Think about what you want more of this spring. Love, peace, calmness. A new chapter of your life. What does that chapter look like? Add it to your board.
What are you ready to release?
Close the chapter. Turn the page. Don't overthink this one. What isn't going on your mood board? A mindset, a habit, alcohol? Be kind to yourself. This is not about perfection. Ask yourself what you are ready to release and give yourself time to practice letting it go.
What will you remind yourself of?
As you go through spring, what do you need to hear and remind yourself of? You are the only one who really knows. The reminders you give yourself will help you in building a more trusting and loving relationship with yourself.
Here are some of my favorite reminders: I'm human. My life is not defined by my mistakes. I've got my back. I can do all things, just not perfectly or at once. I love you. You're the youngest you will ever be today.
I use reminders in my sobriety and if you are removing alcohol or in your first couple of warm seasons without drinking, what is the reminder you deserve to hear about alcohol? Your truth, especially when you're envisioning it as something it isn't.
My vision of my drinking in the first couple of years still had the filter of alcohol on it. It looked pretty, but remove the filter and it was anything but. One reminder I would like to give you: no matter what, alcohol isn't going to change, but you are. Embrace the opportunity of growing into the version of you who doesn't sugar coat her drinking, but honors her truth. That is powerful.
You've got your mood board. Where you are, what you're creating, what you're inviting in, what you're releasing, and what you need to remind yourself of this spring.
Have fun with this and make it your own.
