Living With the Regret of My Drinking as a Mom

I hear from women often about the regret they are carrying because of their drinking as a mom or a grandma - past and present, so this episode goes out to you if you are dealing with this regret.

I know we are carrying big regrets—we think of regrets differently. I’m not here to justify mine, make excuses, or eliminate them.

I’m here to let you know that, as a Mom, I know how you feel.

I started drinking at 14 in 1982; my son, Spencer, was born on May 12, 2001, and I quit drinking on August 11, 2013.

This episode is about living with the regret of my drinking, not letting go of it fully because I don’t know how to do that. However, the regret that I live with about my drinking isn’t as constant or loud as it used to be.

One of the things that staying sober has helped me do is to forgive myself for these regrets and remind myself that I’m doing things differently now.

I’m human. I have many regrets in life, and drinking as a mom is one of them.

If you have regrets about your drinking, you are not alone. I’m with you.
