What it Means to Live a Sober Lifestyle

Apr 15, 2020

I want to give you good news! There is nothing to dread in living life without alcohol. It is not boring, it is not isolating, and it is not something to miss out on as you age.

A sober lifestyle is not about quitting drinking; it's about what you do next. Taking care of your mental and physical health and paying attention to yourself vs. avoidance.

A sober lifestyle supports you in becoming a woman who no longer needs to drink.

A sober lifestyle is a simple plan that helps you get up in the morning take care of yourself first thing not put yourself off, so the stresses of your day end up causing you to drink at the end of the day.

Simple, not easy.

The reason I drank for so many years is that I didn't want to pay attention to a solution to more happiness and better tools to manage my stress and social anxiety, I tried to numb out and hide.

Recovering From Codependency

Mar 03, 2020

For years Stephanie fought desperately to save her husband, her family, and herself from the overwhelming destructive power of alcoholism, addiction, and abuse. Ultimately, she realized that in her attempts to lift him up, she was burying herself. The only way to find peace and protect her family was to redefine them completely.

Now, as a single mom of two, she chips away at the armor she welded on over the years as protection. And hopes her story provides light to those cowering in the darkness of addiction - both the alcoholics and the unseen heroes - the spouses.

The guilt and the responsibility that I felt to stay so he could get better.

I'm in awe of Stephanie's bravery and her perseverance to help others who are experiencing the same thing in a marriage or relationship.  Her vulnerability will help you realize that you are not alone; Stephanie's...

The By-Product of Getting Sober

Mar 03, 2020

The upside of getting sober - needs ALL of the spotlights in today's day and age.  In a society that tells us you have to drink to fit in, have fun, and be a part of us, disruptors like my guest, Jaime T., are pushing back.

Jaime T. is the Founder and CEO of Hype Girl Healing,  an online community for women who want to explore life without alcohol through healing circles and 1:1 private intensives.

Jaime drank for many years because she is in the bar and service industry - she was surrounded by people who were drinking, and she didn’t know any other way.  In 2017,  Jaime decided to do a cleanse in January and gave herself a commitment of 90-days without alcohol even though the cleanse started as thirty-days.

I didn’t know any other way to spend my free time other than drinking.

Life at 50 with Amy Dresner

Feb 25, 2020

Turning fifty never looked so good. In episode 105 of the To 50 and Beyond podcast, I talk with Amy Dresner, author of the book, My Fair Junkie: A Memoir of Getting Dirty and Staying Clean, about what life is like after recently turning the big 5-0!

Amy is very candid about how she feels about aging and ageism, and the changes she is facing in midlife (she doesn't care for that word) and what she is doing today in her life and career.

Amy feels like she isn't where she thinks she should be in life and talk about her financial worries, which is something we can all relate to in the middle.

Amy spent 25 years in addiction and opens up about what it is really like getting sober in her forties and how she works on her recovery today.

As a former comedian, Amy will make you laugh as she talks about not so funny topics such as aging, dating, and dating apps. As a recovering sex addict, Amy sheds light on what it is like...
